#146129 - since you control both ends ...
Responding to: ???'s previous message
The problem with this project is it has a very small communication distance and I feel RS485 is an Over kill
better safe than sorry

moreover can RS485 work well for small distances of few feet?.
what makes you wonder about that?

But anyways that wouldnt be a low cost solution .
since you control both ends why not use RS422, the transceiver cost is about the same as RS232, for instance the DS8921AMX transceiver cost $0.60 at DigiKey.

Actually I have a main board for measurement and its display board few feet away, and the project cost has to be as low as possible.
see above
