I'm working in the Automotive sector (firmware for automated gearboxes) and as soon as you write the often flamed unreadable C, the MISRA standards and Lint will complain.

C is only unreadable if you willingly forget to write clean code.
I wouldn't blame C then but the coder who is not aware of this.
