I think I did manage to pick up at least a bit about Pascal in my three years of full-time use of Pascal.

In the last 15 years, I have met one single customer with an interest in Pascal - they did have existing Pascal code (many years old) that they wanted to run in an embedded platform.

Many years have passed since BASIC managed to throw away the line numbers. Huge administrative systems have been written in Visual Basic.

People managed to write huge administrative systems in COBOL, even if they needed a new keyboard once/year.

People managed to go to the moon at a time when Fortran was king.

In this case, I would think anyone who likes Pascal for the clarity would absolutely adore COBOL. After all, can there be any lovelier statement than ADD 1 TO DATE GIVING TOMORROW?
