#160988 - ICE vs. OCD Responding to: ???'s previous message |

Some of the OCDs provide rudimentary tracing support, e.g. in Ramtron's Versa; however, you are left with whatever tools the chip provider decided to implement.
I welcome every producer effort to improve their product. It is right step to developers and business. Jan Waclawek said:
On the other hand, OCD has the advantage over ICE in that you are using the real target processor for the debugging, not an emulation replacement (this is true also for some ICEs, though; in the '51 world these are mainly those which use the MetaLink's technology).
Yes. I agree with you. Some Emulation chips was not fully compatible to 8051 (serial port compatibility and so on with OKI EMU chip, ... ) but another EMU chips are fully compatible (e.g. Dallas)... ..and some ICE PODs request original MCU. Problematic is usually usage of MCU in non-address bus system (P0&P2 as I/O)...It really depends on ICEMu producer (emulation chip, hooking,...) Jan Waclawek said:
...(and the 12-clocker uPSD32xx don't have the OCD implemented). Quite important information. Thank you, Vaclav |
