I agree. Hyperterminal/Procomm is definitely an opinion. I personally dislike both.
In fact, I saved a copy of TERM.EXE from Windows 3.11 and I copy it to a new system whenever I install Win98. I've found TERM.EXE from Win311 to be the easiest, most straight-forward terminal application to use for the kind of serial communications I do with 8052 development. Your mileage may vary.
