That Cynal article's a joke...
Why did they rip the pins off the IC..
The "wire underneath" method works fine if you flux the board well , then use the wire to bend the pins up and out the way one by one..I also use a titainium wire(as used in etch tanks) so that the solder will not adhere to the wire.
