I would be very careful using the T89C51RD2 since its smaller brethren are not "recommended for new designs".

The reason I have suggested the 668 is that it has 8k of RAM inside and you can get PLCC sockets that spread the pins to the board on a .1" pitch. If you go that way, you can basically pop any modern derivative in.
