Seems to me that a i2c slave implemented in a small cpld would be even cheaper,would be easier to add the extra functions the you want and you wouldnt be tied to a single manufacturer.
Concidering the fact that you can get a cypress cpld in a 44 pin device for around $4 if you buy in 100 off quantities it would be silly not to. |
