I really like the idea that was posted above here where it was proposed that the forum should adapt an idea where the forum threads (topics) with the newest replies are floated to the top of the list. (There are other forums that work like this and it is great because it fosters continued discussions on hot topics and also makes it easier for the original poster to continue in the existing thread without having to start new ones.

I believe that the user forums at www.cygnal.com work like this.
