------------------------------- 1. is one dimension scanning enough or does the sun change angle through out the year making it necessary to do 2 dimension tracking? Ideally. Think about it. Sure as hell the sun is very low in the morning, very high at noon and very low in the evening. 2. if sun changes angle throughout the year will the change be fixed by the date? i.e. I can make a data base lookup for sun path by the date and geographical location ? this way I will only use one dimensional scanning. For optimal power you really do need two axis tracking. Just try measuring the output of a panel as you turn it around outside and you'll see what I mean. 3. if I know the time and date and geographical location there must be an equation(s) to determine the position of the sun saving me from tracking. Yes, but at the expense of needing positional feedback. The equation is pretty nasty. Stick with sensing the sun's position, I have a link somewhere to a guy who has built loads of sun-trackers for this application. Steve |
