As Bert and I pointed out, the equatorial mount may be the way to go, at the expense of mechanical complexity and alignment. The sun also moves 30 degrees per month through the zodiac and that means that the drive speed needs to be altered a little per day anyway. The "Alt-Az" mount is easier, and its stronger mechanically for the same cost in metalwork, but in astronomy use a lot harder to drive, since we often cannot use stars to servo on. We really need to get 8052 into here. Steve |
