They are "orthogonal", in polar terms so you can do both at once. Apparently YELLOW leds make good sensors too.

Azimuth tracking is probably "harder" (more angle) than altitude tracking.

Why worry ? You have 12 hours to get back in !

I would fancy satellite dish actuators for the task - lots of power and up to 1 metre of travel- in a case, waterproofed for 100 quid
