I have read all the replies till now and various options have been given and maybe one will meet your needs .

But I was surprised that nobody cautioned about the crystal that is to be used in this particular case where you need nanosecond accuracy. Afterall, the NOP time is only as accurate as the crystal that is clocking the MCU. Or is it that I am raising an issue that is not critical in this context ? I do believe that the crystals do have variations with temperature and if so what is the answer ?
