#55668 - RE: Grounding Questions for 8051+75176 Bus Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The Bulletproof article doesn't tells much about shield grounding
shielding is a separate story. If you are talking about the wireshiled, it should be grounded in ONE place only. The methods exist, the one I prefer is to ground the wireshield at the master node and keep it continous (shield to shield at each stub). If we connect two Battery powered equipments which has floating supplies? I have seen 'gnd' renamed 'ref' in such cases, you do, however, still need to tie them together. I have only 7 devices to connect to 485 bus and bit wondering about their electrical spacing Please find the following .I have considered termination at the two ends is the below arrangement fine . With this my cable run is roughly 125 feet . I am sending Vcc and GND cable to each node so do I require galvanic isolation ? Regardless if ANYTHING you MUST terminate 485 at the two ends. Galvanic isolation of RS-485 is NOT recommended and the only gain you would have would be the ability to drop the gnd/ref, but since you supply all nodes from the same supply you will need a gnd anyhow. With 125 ft of cable and Vcc travelling I would recommend to crank Vcc up to 5.25V at the source and, of course, heavy decoupling at each node. anything that I have missed . not that I can see, except as above.
