A true story.

On one of the boards I inherited with 1000s in the field I solved a spurious reset problem by having a 100nf capacitor soldered directly across the microchip supervisor chip. A 100nF capacitor was on the board with leads of about 1" to Vcc and Gnd of the chip. That did not solve the problem because of the inductance in that 2" of trace.
