I have read this about fag packs and beer mats. what i am talking about is a round disc used by a little robot that turned small steps telling the robot what to do. if you wanted to change the program you simply changed the paper disc with a different pattern. I cant remember when i saw this but i think it was back when i was in High school. it was quite interesting.
