the short word of "ol'52" and "Cygnal" and "high clock derivative".

Are they component like crystal?

With a good ol' '52 running at 12MHz using T2out you can get a pulse of 3MHz. That gives you a resolution of one step below 100kHz is 96.77kHz.

You choose if you need a Cygnal (or other) high clock derivative or that the good ol'52 is enough. Oh, by the way, forget about using any chip with T0 and T1 only.
