Still, you don't exactly know what to look at with the scope. You may find it immediately, you may not find it at all, plus a scope is not a magic wand that fixes all your problems, it requires some skill and knowledge so you knew what to look for. With narrowing the problem to a single software operation, you narrow it usually to a single connection transition so you know what to watch for.
