#77298 - RE: WEOT: Cheap Solutions For PCB making
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Hi Steve,

There are other manufacturers which make PWB rivet systems also. Keystone is one that comes to mind immediately, because I still have some of their product. However, you should realize that there are both reliability and standards issues with such "mechanical" through hole conductors. They may work fine for a given application, but in general they will not be as reliable as plated through holes. As for standards, I know that the IPC standards prohibit the use of rivets (mechanically applied conductors) in through holes. They are allowed in holes for mnechanical reinforcement if and only if they do not provide electrical conductivity. In other words, if you just want the hole to hold up to the mounting screws, okay, but not if it's also a grounding point. You, of course, should consult whatever standards you are required to adhere to.

On the other hand, if you're just testing a prototype for function, then maybe who cares?
