#82470 - bus direction
Responding to: ???'s previous message
The control signals are another matter.

The problem is turning the bus in the 485 transceiver attached to the uC. You can, of course do something “smart” with Tx and a capacitor, but that will only work if you are not running very fast (my app run 460kbaud). Also, if you do not have a noisy environment and run reasonably slow, you can run quite fast in a J1708 configuration, however I am exposed to more noise than Carter has liver pills. All this is, of course, possible if you incorporate a few switches, but then my NoTouch becomes a joke. What I need/want/hope for is an setup that allow an instruction to the field: plug your laptop in, press “run”, wait for ready, unplug laptop, which is easy to do with a full duplex setup. However my cables/plugs are so long/many that switching to full duplex (one more twisted pair, larger connectors), just for ISP, is not economically feasible.
