I really like the 'V' boot activation re 2a) below.
1)It is very restrictive to try to avoid false bootloader activation. .... 2)or pulldown on a user selectable pin 1) not really, how often do you have communication during start. It does not make sense to transmit to a device that is not powered. Of course in some very special cases that will have to be taken into account, but that will be the exception, rather than the rule. 2a)The whole idea in the V boot scheme is (I guess) that you can reprogram the device without opening the box. 2b) "user selectable" ?? the boot init is a hardware function.
