#83820 - Start a new thread
Responding to: ???'s previous message

2. In my response I asked him to post the details to the Forum into the same thread he started. But it is closed now. Shall I recommend him to open a new thread?- this is again the rules.

Have him start a new thread and post his full and complete question. I'd rather not open the old thread--let's give the question a fresh start.

Is this example convincing enough?

It's a balancing act. Newbies aren't the problem. Newbie questions aren't the problem. The problem is questions that are incomplete or show a lack of personal effort. A long-time professional could be just as guilty of this as a newbie.

As a general example, if someone posts a message, "I can't get the serial port to work. Please help me" then that's simply an insufficient amount of information. It doesn't matter how new the person is to the 8052 it should be obvious that for anyone to help more information must be provided in the question. What has he tried? What were the results? Without more complete questions it's not just frustrating to the person asking the question, it's frustrating to all the people here that would very much like to answer the question but simply don't have enough information.

Likewise, a question of "How can I use the serial port" illustrates that the person didn't even spend two minutes looking through the tutorials to find the answer. While I'm happy to help anyone with a question I have the answer to, it's a bit disrespectful of other people's time when the person asking the question obviously hasn't even spent a minute or two looking for the answer yet asks others to spend their time answering a question that is already answered in the tutorials.

These are the types of questions I'd like to see less of but that doesn't mean we don't welcome people to the forum. I'd just like to see a little more effort on the part of the person asking the question. If not more effort to first try to solve the problem himself then at least more effort in writing a complete question with all the information he can provide to help us help him.
