#87129 - cstn screen challenge
hi guys ,
i've been watching this (extreamly active , i must state...) message board ever since i start playing with 8051s.
i like these chips a lot, and prefer doing whatever i need with them, rather then anything else.

here is the situation, i just got 8 lcd screens. these are full-color LCDs , around 5.7" diagonal(more or less). i got them for a funny price of 65$ from a shuttered factory. they are brand new and in their original boxes.

the problem is , i am in a process of prototyping a multimedia system that need to be compact and cost-effective. since this is an initial-prototype, i am on my own , so budjet is critical.

the first design is pc-based (minimized pc , minimized pack , no fans etc.) and a gra[hical mono lcd , managed by a 8051 ((manages the UI -menues ,remote controll etc)).

now with this screen , it will be much more attractive. problem is, 8051 dont seem to be able to drive it. i need to scan it from a ram image over and over again. (320x(3)x240) == 28800Bytes per frame. first problem with 8051 is that RAM for 16bpp image is too small. second , i need to AC (blink) each RGB pixel according to the desired color-tone specified in the 16bpp value - processing power that i am having trouble to get with 8051.
also , this must b done infinitly , and i need to access the ram from another mcu/pc to update the image.

anyone has an idea of how to drive it? (i truely prefer 8051, but it seems like it cant be done for the UI requirements).

thanks in advance,
david.
