My impression is that Linux and Windows don't boot slowly because of the hard drive, but because of whatever other processes they engage in at boot time. also - linux can run in "RAM-MODE" , thus , you dont need shut-down proccess as the operation system won't do any paging and won't leave stuff opened , so you can also turn off the machine without waiting for a proper shutdown. The instant shut-down is nice, but I'm mostly concerned about a quick boot. As much as I hate Windows, if I were to do this hobby system I have in mind based on one of these things I think I'd use Windows. It's one thing to have fun with 8052 hardware and firmware, but I'm not really in the mood to figure out how to develop graphical Linux applications. Regards, Craig Steiner |
