Never connect the two ground planes AGND and DGND at more than one place it will surely result in ground loop.
- The most ideal place for joining AGND and DGND, for a system with single ADC is under the ADC. This is all common knowledge. But nobody has a good answer to the question, "Well, what if you have more than one ADC? Or an ADC and a DAC in separate packages?" This is relevant to me, since I was once involved in integrating a system with thirty-two 2 MHz 16-bit ADCs. - The place where you join AGND and DGND becomes the star ground point and the at same point the chasis ground should be connected. ... and it might very well be impossible to attach the chassis ground to this point. I haven't even addressed the problem of "where does one connect signal shields?" There IS an answer ... and it's called, "connect 'em to the chassis itself, and then connect the chassis ground to your star point." -a |
