#92252 - USB to serial fun Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I can't recommend the Belkin usb->serial unit. It has a 8051 (!) derivative and as such the serial port doesn't support 7 bit, it seems to do dtraignt 8 bit comms ok though. This 'feature' caught me out at the worst time! Needless to say, no Belkin! I have used devices based on Prolific and FTDI chips and had great success. The Advantech ADAM4561 has a prolific chip - be careful as the drivers have been dodgy of late in that RS485 looked like it was sending but something was very wrong. As for the complaint of putting the same device in different USB ports, some converters don't have the eeprom chip that stores particular information, so that can cause some initial confusion. |
