#98350 - Error reporting Responding to: ???'s previous message |

I see another drawback, the dedicated ISP softwares have ISP related error handling and reporting that a "terminal program" does not. As long as the terminal-program based ISP reports an error at the end of the upload, that's enough to keep you out of trouble. Of course, I think most of them immediately respond to each line of a HEX file with a pass/fail response so if you're using an intelligent program it can react immediately--but if you're using a terminal program then as long as the ISP process lets you know at the end that something went wrong, you should be ok. It's better than being in the situation that Jan described and not being able to do anything at all. Personally, I don't think I'd make my final part selection based on whether or not the UART ISP was binary or ASCII--but if a terminal program could be used, all the better. It just gives me that much more flexibility and is also easier to write a PDA app to update the firmware, as Jan mentioned. Regards, Craig Steiner |
