... is OS independency and the possibility to provide an open and free (free as in free speech) ISP tool. Yes the protocol might be open already and the manufacturer provides a tool free for download but having a tool where I can see how it does what enables me to learn even more and perhaps implement a version that does not require certain things, e.q. GUI.
I don't say ban the manufacturer tools, I just say open standards are very nice and useful - and I therefor prefer them if possible. |
