#99440 - RS232 Isolation for Flash Magic.
Dear Forum Members,

I want to use isolated RS232 interface for programming my philips micro's with flashmagic.

I came across two circuits.

1. Asim Khan's http://chaokhun.kmitl.ac.th/~kswichit...Rs232.html

2. Ijaz Ahmed's
http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=96778

Both these circuits use power stealing method. But in both the designs the stolen power exceeds maximum specified by RS232 standards. AFAIK RS232 standard allows max 1mA. where as both the circuits consume atleast 7 times more.

Can I use these circuits for RS232 Isolation? Does power stealing method really works? Or I may end up burning my COM ports? Is there a better circuit that doesnt violate RS232 specs.

Thanks & Regards,
