Ummm, in life support application, the point is lawsuits.
It's OK when the parts manufacturer has the general terms like Maxim, that is, they don't prohibit the use of it, but the entire responsibility exists on us. If we use a part that is prohibited by the manufacturers and our product happen to cause severe trouble on that part, we'll be sued not only by the patient but also by the manufacturers, because we violate their terms and hurt their corporate image.
