#101700 - Worst conditions.
Responding to: ???'s previous message
3) what size are the pullup resistors ?
3) 4.7k Ohm

That's what the appnote required.

5) how far are the uC and the max6956 apart ?
5) Maybe 16 inches via the jumper wires I'm using.

Just some IC test leads I had bought.

6) the MAX6956 I have plugged into a breadboard.

you have created just about the worst conditions under which to run IIC. you have very large stray capacitances and high value resistors I doubt the bus ever get high in time.

That wouldn't surprise me. I'm not an electronics guy.
to learn I just couldn't see paying somebody else $8,000 to design this device I will ultimately use this stuff with. When I understand logic and have wanted to learn some Assembly programming anyway.

4) does other things the uC do work?
4) ? I don't understand what you are asking here.
Does your program e.g. blink a LED or some such thing that works

I put a transistor and an LED on both the SDA and SCL so that I could see if anything was actually happening on the pins.

before you go on, study this one
http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/acrobat_d...h_2003.pdf

Is basically an IIC "bible". If you are on dialup, download overnight it's 2.7 Mb

Yep got this the other day when you mentioned it, but nothing jumped out at me of what I might be doing wrong.
