Hi Jeff,
I experimented with ignition coils a few years ago, and setup a simple fibreoptic-link to read the voltage values. While this seems like 'overkill', I had been 'burnt' by this setup too many times (once actually - but it was enough) to take any chances!!! Anyway, I cannot remember what circuit I used, but you could construct an V/F circuit on the HT side, send the frequency out through a short piece of fibreoptic cable, then re-convert it back to a voltage level at the 'MCU' end. Note: Make sure that your link is long enough for the required isolation! A word of warning: ANY circuit that sources over 50VDC (depending on skin resistance) and more than 10mA of current should be treated as a LETHAL source! Valentin |
