#103216 - Special HV resistor is needed Responding to: ???'s previous message |

I've got some three watt, 4.7megaohms left over from building the marx. Prolly start with that. I dunno what they are rated at, but it looks like you'd have to have at least 15kv or so to burn a carbon trail on the outside of em... You might not see a carbon trail on the outside, if it sparks over between the internal windings! Take care, even standard 3W resistors can not resist more than about 500V maximum voltage, mostly. Have a look into a databook about resistors. What you need is a special HV resistor, which can withstand several thousands of volt, like VR37-series from Philips or HTS523-series from Sfernice. Kai |
