Did you have a look at signal coming from magnetic pulse generator? Does it meet input voltage requirements? What about noise? Does the signal show ringing (can often be seen with inductive sensors!)? Inductive sensors often give signals which drastically change in amplitude. How do you handle this? What about using a Hall-sensor?
