I would also consider using a Schmidtt trigger to reduce rise times,especially during motor startup
Good, but even better would be a comparator which allow you to set the hysteresis. The HC14s are excellent for non-critical apps, they are a whole lot better than a straight gate (I yse lots of them) but at the machine where you have the worst possible conditions, I would use a comparator with feedback to give it a hystersis of more than a HC14.
