I have redesign the circuit based on the information, i received here. It has a zener, serial resistor, unidi tvs, Caps, pull-up and down resistor and polyswitch.
I think the design will work to solve the problem. However, I am thinking, I might want to use varistor/thermistor in place of serial resistor. A varistor might be better than the polyswitch as my circuit only see 110VAC couple noise for short periods of time, not a 110VAC short
