If you have a look at Vcc or ground at various locations of a microcontroller board you will notice lots of noise. With a proper layout you get noise which does not seriously erode the noise margins, but enough to possibly trigger the reset chip! So, a certain noise immunity is one of the basic requirements a reset chip must meet to work properly at all! Otherwise it would permanently reset the micro... Kai |
