#117510 - way too often the highlighted is not the Responding to: ???'s previous message |
nevertheless, the reset chip is useful in situations, when malfunctionings occur, even when everything was done to make a circuit to work properly.
what I am trying to say is that, way too often the highlighted is not the case beacuse "the supervisor will handle it". One product failed in one location for certain reasons, my predecessor said "the supervisor handles it" and shrugged. I installed conductive foam and the supervisor is happyily staying quiet. So, again, if the supervisor bites, you must, at least, find out why and, if fixable, it must be fixed (YES even if it takes draconian measures). I have heard things like "the cost of avoiding the few resets we have will be too high" bull...., if you have "a few resets" at least buy the units back from the places where they occur, if it is random, YOU screwed up. If the supervisor bites because the power to the unit glitches, sure the super bites and you can do nothing about it - that is a different story, but, if you can do something about it, there is NO excuse. By the way, why are you using a supervisor chip?? Aren't your circuits designed to work properly? oh yes they are, but components fail, 24V lines get erratic ..... Erik |
