#124386 - Various loads
Responding to: ???'s previous message
When you take a Cat5 cable for your RS485 loop, showing a characteristic impedance of 100 Ohm, then you need two 100 Ohm termination resistors at both ends, which gives a load impedance of 50 Ohm. Differential driver output voltage at this load is about 2.5V, resulting in an additional supply current of 2.5V / 50 Ohm = 50mA, which is about ten times the idle supply current of a RS485 transciever without load!
