#132099 - hypering

Are there still die-hards DOING hypering, or have they all gone CCD ?

Steve

There used to be a company in Livermore, California called Lumicon that sold film hypering kits, tanks & forming gas mixtures. They've since been aquired by Parks Optical, but I see on their web site that they still have hypered Fuji G800 available. Someone must be buying it... Probably still doing manual guiding too. Yuck!

For those wondering what we're talking about - "Hypering" is a process of treating unexposed photographic film with a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen gas under heat and pressure to drive moisture out. This has a couple effects on the film and generally improves its ability to record light in long (hours) exposures.

Dead tech... Along with film in general. CCD's are the order of the day here, though sadly, I still don't have one. I've managed to get my scope out once since my son was born. :-(
