#132836 - no, just old fashioned Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Have I got it all wrong?
no, just old fashioned. Multiplexing was in vogue when chips cost money, today you can drive LEDs without multiplexing for $0.03 - $010 per LED see my suggested chips above. If you multiplex (old, tried and true) you will get layers upon layers of complexity once you start implemeting things like intensity control, scrolling etc. YES, everything CAN be done with multiplexing, just so much more cumbersome and - in addition - harder on the LEDs shortening the lifetime of them. this should not be an issue, but if you plan on laying out the lightboard manually, using serial drivers will make it 1000 times easier. Just a note: make sure you get matched LEDs, a board where some are in one end of the tolerance and some in the other looks horrible. Matched LEDs are just a penny - or less - more than ordering just by the same partnumber. Erik |
