My friend was a beginner, He used to design something similar and using some op-amps and calculations. I suggested him "Why not using *this* serial component", and he replied "I prefer to calculate this op-amp equation than having a component with timing diagrams".

My opinion is otherwise.

p.s. The friend I mentioned above was quite good at hardware and beginner at software.
