So You have 10 IR receivers and remote control units for them.

I hope the receiver gives the poor patient feedback when the alarm is on. I once made a similar system (Carage door opener) to my friend and since there was a short delay before the door started to open he destroyed the controller by pressing it all too hard because he thought it did not regognize his "press".

Suitable feedback would be a light - for example.

How are these receivers powered ? Are all getting their power from power supply of their own (10 power supplies - 10 receivers) or are they powered cetrally by a common power supply.

One interesting method not involving a relay would be to have the receiver to light up a lamp. When the lamp lights up the unit starts to draw more current. This could be detected by the central processing unit....

I assume that the idle current of IR receiver is very small so it should be easy to see if the light is on.
