------------------------------- One thing the pic's beat the 8051's is their counter. Yes, but this isn't an application is it, its one of the bits of hardware.Lets find some real apps. PIC 16F84 vs 8051: The pic's have a counter which can handle a signal up to 50 MHz input [1]. The Max a standard 8051 can handle is 1 MHz [2]. [2] http://www.e-insite.net/ednmag/in...mp;stt=001 A useful piece of hardware, but hardly a clincher. Newer '52s can do the same. Looking around the Internet you finds tons of application software for the PICS. In my opinion much more than for the 8051's. True There is much more proprietary code for the 8052 which is closed source, and a lot more hobbyist code on the PIC which is probably open source, much of the PIC stuff I've read is needlessly convoluted, crippled by its RISC architecture. I doubt many professional embedded programmers give away much of their source either. Fact is the 8052 is a twenty four year old design that continues to be extended and expanded, and it still gets design-ins over the PIC. So why ? Professionals aren't doing it to make free source code for hobbyists. Suggestions ? Steve |
