RISC : Reduced Instruction Set Copmputer like the PIC
CISC : Complete Instruction Set Computer like the 8052 The pic has 35 instruction sets while the 8052 has 200 instruction sets. in terms of execution time RISC is faster but in terms of getting job done you need more RISC instructions per same program.
