seems, you are not familiar with the 8051.

You can also easy build a 16 bit counter loop on the 8051 with only 2 instructions:

djnz r0, label
djnz r1, label


Bu my previous example works on a memory variable and not on registers.
And on memory variables the AVR need many more instructions again:

lds r24, 0x60
lds r25, 0x61
sbiw r24,1
sts 0x60, r24
sts 0x61, r25
brne label
