#50619 - RE: Multiple OS?!?!?! Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Sometimes keeping an older slower PC around that simply runs DOS is a handy idea. I have several myself. There is a slight problem that leads to a minor pain in my lab however. I run computers mostly with WIN-2K and one with WIN-XP. They are all networked together, which is extremely easy to do with these latest operating systems, and I have drive shares setup between all the computers. I can then easily run various projects and/or tools on the various units. The pain comes in when I want to use one of the DOS computers in DOS mode. If I load networking on the DOS computer so I can easily send/receive data via ethernet then many of my old DOS tools will not run becasue of the memory constraints of having the network loaded. So I give up trying to network the DOS computers and instead transfer data via floppy disk. That all said I have made every effort to move every new project over to being able to be fully supported under WIN-2K. As the months and years tick by my DOS machines hardly ever see use anymore.
