Oleg, thanks for the reply. I'm not so much worried about how to handle the shared info between ISR and base level as I am about the SETB EA/MOV PCON,#1 sequence being noninterruptible on the 'F12x; were I using a classic 8051 I'd have no worries, but Cygnal doesn't give a complete description of their part's behavior in this area.
