Actually, I like USB:

However, I have found that (some) USB/RS-232 adaptors get confused when connected to an RS-232 port that powers-down for power saving - hence it's good to have real RS-232 port available!

Also, if you're one of those people who thinks they can get away without a proper RS-232 transceiver (MAX232, etc), you are more likely to get caught-out with a USB/RS232 adaptor.
