#86589 - AT89S8252 & MCS52 BASIC?
I'd like to dust off my rusty digital electronics & microcontroller skills. I looked at the PIC's, and even built a programmer kit for them, but I find them kind of annoying to actually use. I played around with a 8031 several years ago (Hmmm... More like 15+ years ago...). I remember it was rather powerful, but I needed a traditional eprom programmer & UV eraser, which I no longer have access to. To make things worse, I mostly develop on a Mac and "big Unix iron", and would like to avoid Windows if at all possible.

Has anyone ever successfully programmed the public domain MCS52 BASIC image in a 89S8252 via the serial programming interface? It seems like it would make a useful "monitor", coupled with some RAM & EEPROM. I could then use it to debug circuits, bootstrap other chips, or program eproms/eeproms.

Can the XTAL value be adjusted for clock speeds faster than 12Mhz?
